STAR TREK FAN(S)

The first part of this article asks "How big a Star Trek Fan are you" and "Who are Star Trek Fans" and the second part is "What I Like" as a Star Trek fan.

How big a Star Trek fan are you? Do you like the Original series? Do you like The Next Generation? Do you like Deep Space Nine? Do you like Voyager? Do you collect Star Trek collectibles? Do you collect, figurines, plates, cards, videos, books, mugs, ornaments, models, tee shirts, software, games, etc.? Do you write Star Trek stories? Do you dream Star Trek? Do you have a mixed collection? Do you have a specialized collection? Do you like to go to conventions?

If you answered yes to anyone of these questions than you are a Star Trek fan. How big a Star Trek fan are you? Well I guess that depends on the individual person. It also depends on how a person looks at you. Would I be a bigger Star Trek if I had more collectibles than the next person? Maybe the next person feels he or she is bigger because of how they feel regarding Star Trek. Is it a feeling? Is it a Love? Is it the future? Is it the way each of us view Star Trek?

There are many types of Star Trek fans. There are those that will show it everyday by the way they dress and talk. There are others that are a little more laid back. There are those that will talk about Star Trek when it is mentioned. These people will be more active in Star Trek clubs. They will have a little more active role, more ideas and more interest. Than you have the Star Trek fans that like Star Trek, but are not interested in showing it by the way they talk, dress and act. They will say they are Star Trek fans but not interested in joining a Star Trek club. They have anywhere from occasional Star Trek knowledge by watching TV or movies to actually collecting Star Trek memorabilia. They would prefer to keep it to themselves and not be a part of a club for whatever reason. Is this bad? NO! Because we all like the same thing , STAR TREK, and the majority of these people will go out and watch the movies or the shows. These people are an intrigal part of the Star Trek universe to keep the dream of Star Trek alive. So if you are the casual viewer, have the biggest collection in the world, or think that you are the biggest Star Trek fan, you are not alone. Anyone who likes Star Trek can't be any bigger a fan than the next person. We are all in this together.

What kind of a Star Trek fan am I? Lets talk about the TV series first. When the original series first aired, I didn't watch it much. Being a teenager at the time I had other things on my mind.(girls?) I really grew to love Star Trek when the original series came out in syndication. I sat by the TV and watch every episode. After that, the movies came out and I watched them. I was more fascinated in the special effects and was thrilled with how they improved in the movies. When the Next Generation aired, I couldn't get hooked to it. I believe one reason was that the TV reception was so poor on the over the air channel that it came on. When it was showed on other stations and I bought a satellite dish, I had to watch reruns to catch up(and I am still catching up). When Deep Space Nine aired, I just couldn't get into a show that had a space station with aliens. I just couldn't believe in aliens on a space station. I have watched more DS9 episodes the last two years that the first four. I have been a Voyager fan from the beginning and to me it is more like the Original series. I have to say, now that I have been watching TOS on the Sci-Fi channel, that TOS is the best series.

What do I collect? Well a little of everything. Mostly magazines, posters, some cards and video tapes. I guess you might say that my collecting interest would have to be video's. What do I have you ask? All the movies and all the episodes of The Original Series. I am collecting The Next Generation and have half of them. I have about 14 episodes of Voyager and will start to collect DS9 after the first of the year. With all the video's I will be able to catch up on TNG and DS9. Also, there are collectable sets such as the Q set, Borg sets, etc., that I will be purchasing in the near future. I have special video's like the "Star Trek 25 Anniversary" , "The 25th year Mission" and "Journey's End, the saga of Star Trek the Next Generation". So that's the extent of my collection.

I am sure there are others that have more than I, but I will get there. This article is in my opinion only. Any comments can be sent to me via e-mail at wormmy@aeneas.net or snail mail at Warren Price 315 Highway 220 Cedar Grove TN. 38321.

Chase and I

I was asked to write an article for the Tapestry newsletter regarding my experience with Chase Masterson at the International Conference. I got to admit that I am still on cloud nine and can't believe it really happened. This ranks up there with my meeting and shaking the hand of Kate Mukgrew.

At Friday's night charity Auction, Chase agreed to give someone three dances at the Saturday night's dance to the highest bidder. Well needless to say I was the highest bidder and NO I won't say how much my bid was. The proceeds went to Chase's charity "Caring for babies with Aids".

I can't recall all the events during the dance because my head was in the clouds but I was only going to dance one slow dance with Chase and it became little more than an hour. We even slow danced through some fast songs. After about thirty minutes we sat down and talked for a few minutes than danced some more. I can't remember all that we talked about but I asked her who was the best Deep Space 9 actor to work with and she said Armin Shimmerman. I asked about Terry Ferrel and Chase said terry was difficult to work with. Chase told me that she is trying to do something with the Sfi-Fi channel but I don't remember the details. Well that's about it. I still just can't believe it happened. END STORY
